the steam from the boialor is expandad in nozzle ,resulting in the emission of a high velicity jet .this jat of steam impinges on the moving vanes or blades mouted on a shaft Here it undergoes a changes of direction of motion which gives rise to a cange in momentum and thirefore a force .

The motive power in a stame turbine is obtained by the rate of channge in momentum of high velicity jat of  steam impinging on a curved blade 

which is free rotate.
